Drowning in Pictures

After we got home from visiting family on Easter, I pulled all the pictures off my camera. All 600 of them. On my computer is a folder labeled 1st for Sorting. As always, I just transferred the pictures off my memory stick and was about to walk away and tackle the many household chores when I noticed that the pictures in the album totaled close to 2,000.

So, I sat right back down and started the long task of sifting out the gems and deleting the rest.

I tackled Easter first.

Then, I started at the earliest picture in the folder. I was shocked to see it was from Christmas!

image

Goodness.

image

I need to sort through pictures more often.

image

Or take fewer pictures.

image

How does everybody else do it? I feel like I used to have a handle on it when I was only taking pictures of Elly. But with 3 kids, I take many more pictures and have considerable less time on my hands.

On a less whiny note, I did finish sorting all the Christmas pictures.

Next to tackle Elly’s birthday pictures.

Nesting Craze

Baby Mal is due in 3 days. So naturally, I have energy to spare and have put it to good use in finally completing our dining room.

Now:

I just adore the pictures I had printed from Snapfish. There are no pictures of Baby Mal, but he isn’t likely to care for at least a year or two and that will give me enough time to accumulate some pictures of the kids together.

Before:

It’s such a huge transformation. It is amazing what a new can of paint can do (and what a new camera can produce). Though Dan was worried about the bright orange, even he admits how much better the dining room looks.

Because I had such fun making the Haigh letters, I bought more letters to do Baby Mal’s name.

Poor 3rd child. He has to share his room with the occasional guest until we buy a bigger house. Though truthfully, it is Dan and I that will have to share our room for the first few years with Baby Mal. It is only his clothes dresser and changing table that is in the guest bedroom.

Sunday Snapshots (of taking pictures)

I love to take pictures. I take pictures almost every day.

Elly is quite used to me carrying my camera bag with me everywhere. Often if we are headed out the door, she’ll hand it to me.

She is also quite used to me taking pictures of her. She doesn’t mind it a bit. Quite the contrary, she encourages me to take more pictures.

This picture was taken when we were visiting Target. As we were walking out of the store, Elly saw a mother taking a picture of her daughter who was sitting on one of the big red balls. You can see the young girl in the background posing for another picture. Naturally, Elly wanted me to help her climb up on the red ball and take her picture too.

The picture above was requested just yesterday morning after Elly laid all her babydolls on the couch and then curled up next to them under a pile of blankets. She was proud.

This next picture was requested because Elly thought she looked funny hanging upside down.

She was right.

Other times, Elly will be playing with her toys and then abruptly stop and announce that she needs to find her camera. Off she runs into her bedroom to get her camera and take a picture of her toys.

It’s so cute.

Making a House a Home with Pictures

This wall has always been our picture wall from the day we moved into this house.

You can see it here in the first picture Elly took on my old point and shoot camera.

Yet, for the past 4 years, it hadn’t been updated.

Even worse, there were no pictures of Elly in the house aside from one tabletop frame. There are close to a thousand pictures of Elly in my online Picasa photo gallery, but none had been printed and placed in a frame.

So, this past month, I have been updating baby pictures of my godsons with more recent pictures as well as adding more pictures of family.

Elly’s picture got the star treatment it deserved.

It’s a 16 by 20 poster print. The picture is one of my favorites: Elly playing tug-o-war with Jake.

I even framed my favorite piece of her artwork.

The whole house feels brighter and happier.

A Day in Pictures

Occasionally, a blog I read would do “a day in pictures” post. They would take pictures of their daily life and post it. It was always so neat to see a snapshot of their daily life. I had thought about doing it myself, but forgot with all the knitting, gardinging and painting projects. When Mercury staff announced to the Town Square bloggers, which I am a member of, that aDay.org was hosting a project to collect pictures from all over the world of people’s daily life on May 15th, it was just the motivation I needed to create a “Day in Pictures” post. So, without further ado, here is a little glimpse into Elly’s and my daily life.

My submission to the ADay.org can be found here.

A Week with Elly

As promised, “A Week with Elly” will be published weekly. Enjoy watching the funny things she does; we sure do!

First, she piled all her toys up next to and on top of Daddy. Then, she climbed up next to him and watched TV together.

Running after the kite that Daddy was trying to fly (not enough wind).

Building a sand castle in her sandbox. She prefers wet sand to dry.

Elly struggled to hit a croquet ball the typical way, so she opted to whack it like a mole.

“Hello, Mama Bird, are you home?” asked Elly while she knocked on the tree with a rock.

Because standing in front of a table filled with water is not nearly as much fun as sitting in a pool of water.

Yes, she climbed up here all by herself to sit in her chair. And ever was she proud!

A Week with Elly

Since Elly has been left out of my recent posts about knitting and painting, I decided she deserved a post all to herself.

Sculpting a bird’s nest with 2 eggs (because she had just watched a Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That Nest Best Thing episode where Sally and Nick learn how to make a robin’s nest)

Leading her scooter down the sidewalk (still learning how to ride it)

the swings are back at the Spruce Park! (as you can see in the background, they were hanging them while we were there)

On High Street in Pottstown, a row of sidewalk is missing. Elly has to stop to play with the rocks every single time.

I hope to make this a weekly event. It seems silly that I take a billion pictures of Elly and only a handful of people ever get to see them. Call it my brag book if you will.

Love for Google+

Goodbye to Facebook. Hello Google+.

The main reason – Nay, the only reason – I am jumping ship is my love of sharing pictures. It’s true that Google+ has other perks, such as integrating with my gmail account. They’re nice features, but what sold me is the ability to link to all my photo albums to my account. It’s something Facebook does not offer. Not only does Facebook’s process for uploading pictures suck, Facebook won’t talk to Picasa, which is where I prefer to upload all my pictures to.

The first thing Google+ asked me when I joined was if I wanted to link my many Picasa albums to it. Heck yeah. Right now the only people who see all the pictures I take of Elly are my husband and my MIL. Occassionally I post a link in Facebook to one of the pictures. Several pictures of Elly are included in my blog posts, but Elly’s album has over 100 pictures.

Elizabeth, Age 1

It is impossible to post them all. Still I would love family and friends to have easy access to them. Finally, I can have my cake and eat it too.

If you are on Google+, please add me to your circle.
