Sunday Snapshots (of swinging)

Granny bought Elly her own swing.

She loves it. She’s a little obsessed with it.

Dan had a little trouble hanging it. First, he tried the tree, but it was too close to the trunk.

So, he moved it further down the branch. It no longer hit the trunk. The shade was lovely. Elly could swing really high. The only problem was the swing would get twisted on the ropes and I constantly had to realign it.

Yesterday, Dan hung the swing on the front porch.

It’s perfect. It’s in the sun during the morning hours, but that is only a problem 2 months out of the year.

Elly is happy so long as she has a swing she can go on every single day of her life.

A Week with Elly

As promised, “A Week with Elly” will be published weekly. Enjoy watching the funny things she does; we sure do!

First, she piled all her toys up next to and on top of Daddy. Then, she climbed up next to him and watched TV together.

Running after the kite that Daddy was trying to fly (not enough wind).

Building a sand castle in her sandbox. She prefers wet sand to dry.

Elly struggled to hit a croquet ball the typical way, so she opted to whack it like a mole.

“Hello, Mama Bird, are you home?” asked Elly while she knocked on the tree with a rock.

Because standing in front of a table filled with water is not nearly as much fun as sitting in a pool of water.

Yes, she climbed up here all by herself to sit in her chair. And ever was she proud!

Goodbye Christmas Tree

When we moved to this house 6 years ago, there were 18 trees on approximately 1/3 acre of land. Our neighbors  to the left of our house were partial to the 5 dogwoood trees. They told us stories about how the trees were often used as the back drop for their children’s prom pictures. Our neighbors to the right of our house were partial to the holly tree and the red berries it bore every winter.
The dogwoods and the holly are nice trees, but my 2 favorites were the huge pin oak

and the Colorado blue spruce.

The first 2 years we lived here I trimmed the spruce tree for the holidays. I loved how it almost shimmered after a snowfall.

A few days ago we had TreePro come by and remove it as it was slowly dying. I’m going to miss that old tree come winter.

For the record, despite removing 4 of the old trees for one reason or another, we have more trees than we started with thanks to my planting 5. Well, I actually planted 9, but only 5 took.
